Intressanta fynd av storfjärilar (Macrolepidoptera) i Sverige 2025

Abstract

This is the 53rd consecutive annual report on remarkable records of Macrolepidoptera in Sweden. Most records were obtained from the Swedish Species Observation System, Artportalen. Two species are reported as new to Sweden: Stegania trimaculata (Villers, 1789) and Agrochola lunosa (Haworth, 1809). Based on last year’s total of 1,136 species, this brings the total number of Macrolepidoptera recorded in Sweden to 1,138, of which 16 are introduced. In addition, 110 new provincial- and Lappmark records are documented. The year 2025 was the second warmest on record in Sweden, with exceptional heat in northern Norrland during July–September producing unusually high moth flight activity around the Gulf of Bothnia. Despite generally low moth abundance in southern Sweden during summer, numerous noteworthy species were recorded, including early records of Spodoptera exigua
and Nycteola asiatica, suggesting possible reproduction following immigration in autumn 2024. Among the resident species, the records of Baptria tibiale, Eupithecia expallidata, Hypoxystis pluviaria, Photedes captiuncula and Xestia sincera from partly new localities were especially noteworthy. As in recent years, Sweden received an influx of an increasingly diverse array of migrants. Among the still rare migrants recorded in 2025 were Ascotis selenaria, Rhodometra sacraria, Aedia funesta, Euxoa ochrogaster, Eublemma purpurina, Grammodes stolida, Heliothis adaucta, Protoschinia scutosa, Spodoptera littoralis, and Utetheisa pulchella. Based on the 2025 Swedish Red List, 25 of 113 resident butterfly species (22%) and 89 of 908 resident moth species (10%) are classified as threatened (CR, EN and VU). Several species were moved to higher Red List categories compared with the 2020 assessment.
