Abstract

Species of bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) found as new to Sweden during the period 2009–2020 are presented. Cyclorhipidion bodoanum (Reitter, 1913) (2009), Phloeosinus thujae (Perris, 1855) (2011), Ips cembrae (Heer, 1836) (2011), Ips amitinus (Eichhoff, 1872) (2012), Xylocleptes bispinus (Duftschmid, 1825) (2017), and Cryphalus piceae (Ratzeburg, 1837) (2020) are recently established additions to the Swedish fauna. Scolytus pygmaeus (Fabricius, 1787) (2019) and Phloeotribus rhododactylus (Marsham, 1802) (2019) have been rediscovered after more than 100 years of absence. Scolytus scolytus (Fabricius, 1775) and Xyleborinus attenuatus (Blandford, 1894) are spreading rapidly. Single specimens of Ips sexdentatus (Börner, 1776) have been recorded in harbours and from inland sites in southern Sweden, but there are no signs of established populations. The rare species Orthotomicus longicollis (Gyllenhal, 1827) is once again found on the Swedish mainland after 90 years of absence. Pityophthorus micrographus sibiricus (Stark, 1952) is recognized as a new subspecies for Sweden. It was found in 1944, 1987 and 2003. Xyleborus cryptographus (Ratzeburg, 1837) has been moved to a recently resurrected genus and should now be referred to as Heteroborips cryptographus (Ratzeburg, 1837). Trypophloeus dejevi (Stark, 1936), recently reported as new for Sweden, was misidentified and was subsequently redescribed in 2021 as new to science under the name Trypophloeus borealis (Kvamme, Mandelshtam, Salnitska, Ojeda & Lindelöw 2021). The number of bark beetle species present in Sweden is currently 92.
